I added another layer, set the blend mode to multiply and the layer opacity to 30%. Then I filled the layer with a dark blue. This has the effect of casting a shadow over the whole painting. The next steps will turn the lights back on. Add a new layer and set the layer blend mode and the brush mode to color dodge. I chose a dark warm color and slowly layered on the light with a soft brush. The arrow in the upper right corner helped me keep the light direction consistent.
